The Basics

There are two main parts to Mt. Qingcheng: the front and the rear. Most of the temples and other historical and cultural attractions can be found in the front, including Jianfu Palace, Shingqing Palace, and Tianshi Cave. The rear mountain is known for its tranquil natural scenery and is a popular area for hiking. The most popular route to climb the front is to take a ferry across Yuecheng Lake, and then a cable car up, before walking the final 20 minutes to the summit. Just that doing so doing so will bypass a number of temples and other historic and cultural sites.

Many visitors combine a trip to Mt. Qingcheng with nearby Dujiangyan Irrigation System (the combined area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site). While it’s possible to visit independently, visitors will gain a better appreciation of the Taoist significance of Mt. Qingcheng through a guided tour.

Excellent
Our guide, Lucy, was very knowledgeable, patient and friendly. Lucy was very flexible with the itinerary and customised it according to our requests. Lucy also shared with us many tips and popular eateries we can consider in Chengdu. Separately, the booking process was simple and Lily, the sales representative was responsive and informative. Highly recommend! Suitable for all types of travellers, family with elderly, family with young children, couple or even solo.

Qingcheng Mountain and Dujiangyan Irrigation Private Day Tour
We visited the irrigation dam in the morning and Qing Cheng mountain after lunch. The irrigation dam was awesome. Would recommend paying for the shuttle bus to the foot of Qing Cheng mountain as this saves time and leaves you with energy to climb to the top. We took the boat and the cable car. Bella was very knowledgeable and proactive and saw to our every need. Enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Memorable trip!

All-Inclusive Private Day Tour of World Heritage Sites: Mount Qingcheng and Dujiangyan
This was a great tour! Our guide Abby was very knowledgeable and was an amazing guide. We enjoyed the beautiful hike easy up Mount Qingcheng to the Taoist Temple. There were so many beautiful photo opportunities and Abby allowed us to move at our own pace. The Dujiangyan irrigation system was also another beautiful site. This was a FULL day tour with lunch- which was very good as well. Abby and Lily handled all the transportation and ticket arrangements so all we had to do was to sit back and relax and take in the wonderful sites.

All-Inclusive Private Day Tour of World Heritage Sites: Mount Qingcheng and Dujiangyan
This was a great introduction to the outer reaches of Chengdu! Cassie was a really wonderful tour guide and Fish provided good driving service as we drove out to Mount Quingcheng and Dujiangyan. Cassie and Fish kindly postponed my departure time, since I'd just flown in from California the night before, but I recommend sticking with the early departure time. We ended up stuck in both morning 1.5 hours and evening 2.5 hours rush hour traffic which was quite bad and I'm from San Francisco so I know bad traffic!. Besides the traffic, the tour agenda was just right. Seeing the World Heritage sites was fascinating, and Cassie provided a running commentary that was both informative and entertaining. The extra transportation at Mt. Qingcheng electric cart, boat, and aerial lift was helpful to someone experiencing jet lag and feeling the effects of elevation. We stopped at a very good neighborhood restaurant for lunch, and I got to see the kitchen and some of the cooking! Be prepared to eat with chopsticks! Then we toured the Dujiangyan irrigation system which is an amazing engineering and construction project still functioning since 200BC! We didn't have time to drive to the top most viewing spot, but walked all around the project area near the river level. I'll go to the overhead viewing spot if I ever go back, but the diorama set up in the Qinyan Pavilion gave a good overview of how the project was designed, as long as Cassie was there to translate the signs! I recommend this excursion for those that want to get out of downtown Chengdu and see some of the countryside.

All-Inclusive Private Day Tour of World Heritage Sites: Mount Qingcheng and Dujiangyan
First, my compliments to a very professional, knowledgeable and attentive guide Mia. The Dujiangyan Irrigation project truly shows the intellect and engineering abilities of the builders. If the stunning visuals are not enough, the scope of the project should impress anyone. A photography buffs delight. Sadly, only limited physically challenged access assistance available. The initial impression of the Mt. Qingcheng park is just as impressive as the visit. However, physically challenged access is limited to the base portion of the park and anyone who wants to visit the top needs to have great walking shoes, be willing to do some climbing, and have lots of energy for a lengthy effort.

Things to Know Before You Go

Top Sights at Mt. Qingcheng

Jianfu Palace is the best preserved temple on the mountain. It was built during the Tang Dynasty and is still a fully functioning Taoist temple with over 100 monks. Situated at 3,280 feet (1,000 meters), Shangqing Palace dates from the Jin Dynasty and was rebuilt in the 1800s. Tianshi Cave is where ancient Taoist master Zhang Daolin was said to have lived. And from Laojun Pavilion, take in the stunning views over Dujiangyan City below.
