Letterfrack is a haven for fish species including Grey Mullet, Thorn Back Ray, Dog Fish and Large Bull Huss. The ecology of Letterfrack has to include the Terns, sea birds that make Letterfrack Bay their home and nesting grounds. The Sandwich and Common Tern fly 7,000 miles from South Africa every Spring/Summer to nest on Lamb's Island which is a nature reserve. The bay is also home to Grey Herons, Oyster Catchers, Guillemots, Cormorants, Curlews, Great Black Gulls, Great Northern Divers, Mallard Ducks and Black-headed Gulls. Spot the shy otters' hide outs and if you're lucky you might even catch a glimpse of these playful marine mammals. Other sea mammals that are sometimes seen on the Ballinakill Harbour tour are dolphins and porpoises.

Explore nature walks in scenic Connemara National Park on the Wild Atlantic Way. The park covers 2.957 hectares of scenic mountains, expanses of bogs, heaths, grasslands and woodlands. The park's mountains are part of the famous 12 Bens mountain range. Entrance to the park is free. At the visitor centre view a fascinating exhibition on the Connemara landscape. A variety of safe and easy trail options are available for the whole family to enjoy, with more challenging tracks &trails for walkers, ranging from 0.5kms to 5kms. Come see the world famous Connemara pony. The birdlife is varied and includes Meadow pipits, skylarks, stonechats, chaffinches, robins and wrens. Birds of prey and wild red deer can be seen occasionally too. Lunch is at the Tea Room, situated in the park, consisting of delicious soup of the day, with homemade brown bread, plus a freshly made sandwich (plain or toasted), with 2 fillings of your choice, tea or coffee and a chocolate. This is a self-guided tour.

When your cruise ship docks in port, know that you have a special sunset excursion planned: a kayaking tour along the Wild Atlantic Way. Discover the stories of this famous site and it’s past. Steeped in history, the Derrygimlagh blanket bog, close to Clifden, is a rugged and wild landscape with two major claims to fame. Pilots John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown crashed-landed in the bog in 1919 after completing the world’s first transatlantic flight. They landed close to a wireless telegraphy station which had been set up 14 years earlier by Italian inventor, Guglielmo Marconi. Today the location of the Marconi wireless station is home to a white memorial cairn dedicated to the pair. On this 5 km guided walk around tiny lakes and peat bogs with your expert local guide, discover the fascinating history and story of this unique and beautiful area.
