The Basics

It's possible to visit the Isle of Skye on a full-day tour from Inverness, stopping at sights such as Fort William, Glencoe, and Eilean Donan Castle along the way. To experience everything the island has to offer, spend a night or two on the island—multi-day tours from Edinburgh or Glasgow are popular options that will give you plenty of time to visit Portree, the island's largest town; take in the views from the Old Man of Storr; and explore top attractions such as the Faerie Glen, Dunvegan castle, and Kilt Rock.

Isle of Skye, The Highlands and Loch Ness - 3 Day Tour from Glasgow
Our guide gave us a most excellent experience. Making sure we got the most out of the time we had, we saw all of the places we wanted to see and more. As a first timer to the Isle of Skye, I was blown away by the experience. I will be using Viator to book my next tour for sure.

The Ultimate Isle of Skye Day Tour from Inverness
I thought nothing could be more amazing than Hawaii. The Isle of Skye blew it away. Stunning. The tour was great. It would have been nice to spend more time in each place but the laws of space and time didn't allow that. Robert was a perfect guide. I could have listened to him read the phone book for 12 hours, just for the accent! But he is a top-notch story teller, care taker, and comedian. All while driving a huge coach on winding, narrow roads!

Isle of Skye Full Day 8-Seater Bus Tour from Inverness
We really enjoyed the trip. Excellent logistics and the tour guide, Robbie, is very knowledgeable and friendly. There multiple stops on the way. The views from Lochalsh are breathtaking and would have liked to spend a little more time there in return for cutting out some of other stops. Isle of Skye has so much to offer and a few hours is more of a taster for future trips.

3-Day Isle of Skye and Scottish Highlands Tour Including "Hogwarts Express" Ride
I had an absolutely amazing time traveling solo with my group tour, everyone was so friendly and kind, including out awesome driver, Rich! He was so funny and full of great stories to tell. We traveled from Edinburgh to Isle of Skye with stops in-between. The Hogwarts express ride was a personal highlight, being a huge Harry Potter geek.. I mean fan! Thank you for an incredible adventure! I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to experience the Highlands of Scotland including Harry Potter fans!

3-Day Isle of Skye and Scottish Highlands Tour Including "Hogwarts Express" Ride
If you want a great taster for Scotland - but only have a few days - this is the trip to take! The itinerary covered lots of ground without feeling too rushed - Highlands and Isle of Skye are spectacular ... the train ride IS worth it - especially if you bring a bit of whisky to enjoy with friends! Our guide Charlie was awesome ! Highly recommend this trip!

Skye In A Day From Portree Visiting The Most Scenic Spots
The tour is excellent! We have five people inside an eight seater van. Thank goodness that we are under level three Covid rules! A full capacity of eight would be extremely uncomfortable!

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Prepare for unpredictable weather—it can get chilly along the coast even in summer and rain is always a possibility.

  • Pack some insect repellent—the Scottish Highlands are notorious for their midges, an insect similar to mosquitos.

  • Public transport is very limited on the Isle of Skye, so joining a tour is the best option for those without their own transport.

When to Get There

The best time to visit Skye Island is during the spring and summer months, when the weather is most favorable—although the midges are out in full force on warm evenings. The views can be spectacular in winter, especially if it’s been snowing, but access to some of the island's lookout points will be dependent on the weather.
