Today, the Old Truman Brewery is a revolutionary arts and media quarter in East London, but centuries ago it was one of the largest breweries in the world. Founded in 1666 as the Black Eagle Brewery, it grew to be the world’s largest in 1873 before closing altogether a century later. Now, the ten acres of buildings that once formed the brewery are home to more than 200 businesses, including a variety of creative businesses and independent shops, galleries, markets and bars. Shoppers can visit Europe’s largest record store, Rough Trade, and clothing stores such as Absolute Vintage, Number Six, YMC and Traffic People. For eats, stop at the Boiler House Food Hall, featuring 30 stalls of international cuisine.

Definitely worth a visit is the Backyard Market, which was the first market in the area to open on Saturdays. There, you’ll find a mix of kitsch goods, arts and crafts and works by young designers and artists. If you’re visiting on a Sunday, the Sunday Upmarket shouldn’t be missed, with more than 200 stalls featuring established designers and artists, as well as an indoor food area.

Walking Food & Drink Tours In London. Discover the East End of London.

Walking Food & Drink Tours In London. Discover the East End of London.

Walking Food & Drink Tours In London are a must. Walk Eat Talk Eat's East London food tour was the first one in the area. We now cover the South and West of London too. We've had thousands of customers along, shared zillions of stories and are close to serving up our 3000th salt beef bagel. We run our East End Tour all through the week and on the weekends that's when we hold our Hidden Gems and Portobello Tales tours. Why East London? Because the food is amazing, there's so much history to share and our tour guides have lived in those areas, so they know them inside out and love sharing their local haunts. I myself have lived in London now for over ten years and I can safely say this city still surprises me with all its hidden secrets old-and-new. What I believe gives us that unique essence is that myself and our tour guides ( even in our spare time ) go in search for new cuisines to be tasted and explore hidden bits of London's history waiting to be spoken about all for you.

A Ball of Chalk - Guided Private East End Walk

A Ball of Chalk - Guided Private East End Walk

For a London that feels more like home to a Londoner than the pomp and grandeur of Westminster, head to Spitalfields for a small-group experience like no other. Historically much poorer than its cousin to the west, it has in more recent times found its fortune in skyscrapers and creatives- a true rags to riches tale. The stories heard here are not of kings and politicians but of the real people who made this area- cockneys and costermongers, brave Blitz-era civilians and Eastern European Jewish settlers, Bengali Muslims and fleeing French Protestants, artists, fashionistas, trendsetters, foodies, radicals, 1950s gangs, Victorian murderers, workhouse paupers and everybody in between. You’ll duck into the backstreets to discover hipster markets and Beigel shops, old breweries, a religious building that tells of centuries of immigration, 18th century weaver houses, old taverns, unbelievable street art from Banksy to Stik, global cuisine and a very different side to our fair city.
