Mount Nebo, Jordan

The Basics

Mt. Nebo is known as the spot where God showed Moses the Holy Land, and many scholars believe that the prophet later died here. Today's visitors come to see the views and visit the basilica here, which was built by Egyptian Christian monks in the fourth to sixth century and features a number of beautiful mosaics. Virtually all tours to nearby Madaba, known for its Byzantine mosaics, include a stop at Mt. Nebo, as do multi-day tours of Jordan. Some tours combine a Mt. Nebo visit with a stop at the Dead Sea, about 45 minutes away.

Really good variety. The...
Really good variety. The first two stops are very casual, slow paced, good things to learn about. The third stop is insane....the canyon is really cool, it's like a water ropes course. I'm in average shape and could do it but it was a struggle. There are guides to help you along the way...I wouldn't have made it if there weren't. It was unbelievable though, so glad I did it, super fun. There was a really refreshing waterfall at the end as well. Wear water shoes. The dead see is fascinating, but the sand is very hot. Keep the shoes on there lol. If you can't float well, you will neat. Not something you do all day though, I recommend not wearing sunglasses because the water drips off of them and in the bottom of your, it burns. Anyways, really cool resort with pools to go to after you are done with the dead sea. Lunch is the only weakness of this trip but what are ya gonna do, it was fair. Muard, our guide, helped us get the Covid Test we needed to go to our next destination at the end of our tour without hesitation, really just a nice guy that was willing to go the extra mile to help out. He made sure we got our results and were all set through whatsapp the next day as well. I'm glad I did this tour.

Private Tour Madaba, Mt. Nebo, Baptism Site and Ma'in Hot Springs
I loved the tour. The tour guide was super nice. I didn't like that we were supposed to have a lunch at the hotel in the hot springs and we have it in another place. Also we didn't have access to the towels at the hotel neither to the inside hot springs.

It was a smooth and overall enjoyable tour. The driver negotiated a few challenging bends throughout the journey and shared some invaluable insights of Jordan and key industries.

4-Day Tour from Amman: Amman, Nebo, Jerash, Petra, Wadi Rum and Dead sea
It was a fantastic trip including the hotel and the night at the Wadi Rum. The Dead Sea is very very hot in August. Petras is great and you have enough time to go the 900 steps up to the Monastery. Jerash is very well preserve area. Amman is very nice place including the beautiful theater.
Madaba, Mount Nebo, Baptismal Site & Dead good hands

From Amman to West ( Madaba, Mt Nebo, baptism site and dead sea)
Yousef was an excellent English speaker and driver. He was remarkably prompt and caring in his approach to taking three 60-somethings around Jordan on a damp Saturday afternoon. Yousef even phoned us the day before to check on pick-up location and times. The tour went exactly as planned with a trip to St George's Church in Madaba, where Yousef also suggested the Church of St John the Baptist, which proved to be an excellent additional venue. We then went to Mount Nebo, which we had almost to ourselves. It was damp and cloudy and there was no view of the Promised Land, but that did not detract from the special nature of the site. We then went to the Baptismal Site in the valley via a wonderful, scenic route past many Bedouin camps. There, Yousef guided us through the entry procedure and awaited our return. This site is very interesting and well worth the cost of the trip alone. After this we went to a hotel restaurant at the Dead Sea of our choosing and had a good lunch before our return to Amman. All-in-all an excellent experience, guided by a super guide and gentleman.

When to Get There

Mt. Nebo is a year-round destination and is best visited early in the morning (to avoid heat and crowds) or around sunset (when the views from the mountain are at their most fabulous). While rain isn't usually an issue here, there can be showers in the winter season; however, this is also the coolest time of year and thus ideal for those sensitive to the heat.

Biblical Jordan

Jordan is full of biblical sites and attracts large numbers of Holy Land tourists, many of whom combine trips to Jordan with neighboring Israel. While Mt. Nebo is the most famous such site, there are plenty more, including nearby Bethany Beyond the Jordan, where many believe Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, and Umm Qais, the site of the Gadarene Swine miracle in which Jesus is said to have cured a madman.
