Cái Bè

Cái Bè, Tiền Giang, Vietnam

The Basics

Cái Bè was the administrative and economic center of southern Vietnam in the mid 1700s, and the town’s market is still one of the most important in the country for distributing agricultural products. Visit the area on a small boat to see vendors selling a variety of tropical fruits and other goods.

The Cái Bè Floating Market is a regular feature of Mekong Delta day trips from Ho Chi Minh City. These tours sometimes also include a visit to Tan Phong Green Island, where fruit trees line a network of canals.

A complete experience
The day was very interesting with many different activities giving us the opportunity to get a better feeling of the area and the people. After the 2 hours trip by car we got in a boat that took us to river market and to all the other places that we visited. Several artisans, the market in town where we were able to buy fish that later cooked for our lunch, a dancing show, a ride in the little canoe throughout the canals , biking around the area and a great lunch with nap included. The guide was very nice and knew well the area

[FRESH CRAFTED] Mekong Delta 1 day with the Chocolate drop (Cai Be-Vinh Long)
Best trip with Best Tourgide (Max)! Really interesting stops, good information about Saigon‘s history. The mixture of the tour (chocolate farm, coconut candy, rice paper, pop rice production, rowing boat trip on the Mekong River, kayaking, cycling, cooking class) is just perfect! The tourgide also took great photos and send them to us. Wouldn‘t have missed this experience!
Had a ‘Golden’ time

Discover Cai Be Floating Market and Tan Phong Island in small group
My partner and I were lucky being the only ones in our group for the day. Our tour guide, Golden, ensured we had a great time. We were able to do all the activities included and more that weren’t. All in all a worthwhile tour that gets you away from the hustle and bustle of the city to give a taste of the peaceful village life.
Great trip with an amazing tour guide

Full-Day Trip to Cai Be Village and Mekong Delta Boat Ride
A great day at the Mekong Delta made all the better by tour guide Nam the Handsome man:) A visit to the wet market..boat trip to floating village..hand rowed boat ride..rice factory..listened to music..made our lunch with 5 course meal. Rain stopped the bike ride but a good day with lots of laughter and so much food and drink. Would recommended if you want a taste of Vietnamese life on the Delta.

Cai Be Small Floating Market 1 day tour from Ho Chi Minh city
This was a good fun, well organized tour. The floating market was a bit of a disappointment to me, as there were very few boats basically with people sleeping on them and not really selling much. But the rest of the day was fantastic. Our guide took us to a local market in the delta, which was definitely an experience. Our bike ride was also a bit of an adventure as the bikes are in terrible conditions - rusty and broken, but it was really fun trying not to fall into one of the canals ( would not recommend for an unfit or elderly person - but you car rest in a hammock instead). Our guide was very friendly and helpful.
Excellent tour...incredible guide

Cai Rang floating market and biking on Cai Be town full day private tour
The tour was pretty amazing, we were quite sceptical of the price at first as there were many other tours a lot cheaper, however this is a completely private tour of both the floating market (at peak time) and Ben Tre coconut forests along with the obvious row boat along the mekong plantations with hat included. It is worth it as there are many other interesting things to see in between that are not mentioned on itinerary...with lots tastings/samples. The endless amounts of fruit and shot of snake venom spirit was a particular highlight. Our quide Phong was fantastic and very enthusiastic about is job and no question went unanswered, even with an hours delay d/t traffic he still made sure we saw everything.....ask for him would be my advise.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Because of the combination of roads and waterways, the Mekong Delta is a difficult place to visit independently. If you want to see the market, opt for a tour that includes transportation, including boats to take you out onto the water.

  • There are several hotels and restaurants in Cái Bè, most of which offer free Wi-Fi.

  • There are a couple of ATMs in the village, but they can malfunction; bring cash with you to avoid any problems.

The Best of the Mekong Delta

After visiting Cái Bè’s floating market, spend some time at other delta highlights: Head to Vinh Tràng Pagoda, near My Tho city, which blends Vietnamese, Cambodian, Chinese, and European design and architectural styles. Other popular stops include Phoenix Island, which was formerly inhabited by an eccentric monk, and Ben Tre, where you can learn how coconut candy is made.
