Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom
Laughter and terrified shrieks mingle with the scent of fried chicken, funnel cakes and chlorine at this amusement and water park outside of Allentown Pennsylvania. Here, five thrill coasters – including the inverted Possessed and Steel Force with a 205-foot drop – whip sugar-crazed families and teenagers through the sky with view of other park attractions including a walking trail home to 30 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs, the 10-story Demon Drop and the more than three dozen slides, pools and lazy rivers of the attached Wildwater Kingdom.
In addition to the satisfying adrenaline machines, family friendly rides are also bountiful. Race cars, a Ferris Wheel and the tilt-a-whirl allow parents and younger children to enjoy rides together and the park’s Planet Snoopy has 16 Charlie Brown-themed rides for little ones including the Linus Launcher where kids can fly in circles and the Woodstock Express wooden coaster.
The attached waterpark is a major draw in the height of summer – its 355,000 gallon wave pool simulates the sea and cabana rentals are a popular way to while away an afternoon. To beat the crowds throughout the park, arrive early on a weekday and start with the rides in the back first.
