Beng Mealea, Temples of Angkor, Siem Reap, Cambodia

The basics

A rural location away from the main Angkor temples means that Beng Mealea sees far fewer crowds. With that in mind, plenty of off-the-beaten-path sightseeing tours stop at the temple; tours tend to transport you by either tuk-tuk, air-conditioned vehicle, or on a bike. and usually combine Beng Mealea with the intricately-decorated Banteay Srei. Many continue on to Tonle Sap Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Asia, and include a cruise to the floating villages of Kompong Khleang.

Full-Day Tour: Kulen Mountain, Beng Mealea & Tonle Sap
I had this tour trip on 16-July-2022. This tour is quite unique because I was looking for a day tour to see as many as possible places outside Angkor and Siem Reap within a day, but companies offer only either Tonle Sap Lake or Phnom Kulen or Beng Mealea trips separately. This one covers them all in a day, which is perfect. I was picked up at 8:00 AM in my hotel lobby by driver Mr. Path with guide Mr. Bunchhoub. First you're going to Kulen Mountain, which we've reached by 9:30 AM. Take note that while heading there you make a stop to buy ticket to enter mountain area, which is $20. While approaching the mountain, Mr. Bunchhoub kindly agreed to make an extra stop for 10 min to visit Banteay Srei temple, which is on the way and is a memorable place to visit (I would include this temple to the program for just 10-15 mins, as well). On the mountain we've visited cliff with breathtaking views, waterfall, temple with Buddha on top of the rock and carvings in a river, before heading to Beng Mealea by around 1:00 PM. From 1:00 to 2:00 PM we had lunch near the entrance and then explored Beng Mealea. By 4:00 PM we've reached Tonle Sap Lake where you're having a boat ride, walk down the main road of Kampong Phluk and see the lake on a boat. Take note, that you will also need to pay $22 for the boat ride at the entrance. By 6:30 PM I was brought back to my hotel. Driver Mr. Path is came very prepared - he always provides you with cold bottle of water when you finished previous one and he has a lot of cold fresh towels to cool you down after you explored each location under the heat. Guide Mr. Bunchhoub is very experienced, helpful and passionate guide, I've been asking a lot of questions and learnt a lot! We had a good time with positive vibes that day. I had a 1-day pass to Angkor (for 15-July) but nowadays it is actually issued for 2 days (till 16-July in my case) so I managed to go freely to Beng Mealea (and Banteay Srei temple). So make sure you have a valid pass for this day you're having a trip. Thank you very much for opportunity to explore as many as possible places around Siem Reap and Angkor are within a day, it was really productive! I would suggest to include quick stop for 10-15 mins at Banteay Srei temple since it is on the way to mountain. Thanks to Mr. Bunchhoub for kindly including it in my trip!

Koh Ker & Beng Mealea Full-Day Join-in Tour
Very large area surrounding koh ker was destroyed by a large fire, so we were disappointed by the view. We weren’t informed in advance of the ticket cost change at Beng Mealea, from 5 usd to 37 usd. Our guide was very good and friendly.

Full-Day Tour: Kulen Mountain, Beng Mealea & Tonle Sap
I booked this tour because I wanted to experience the lesser known places in Siem Reap, outside the Angkor Wat complex and I am so glad that I did. Our guide Mr Sunny, is a wonderful man, ready with stories of the places we went to and about Cambodia in general. Our driver, Mr Handsome, doubled as our wonderful photographer. A good tour makes you fall in love with the places that you visit and that's exactly what this tour did for us. Kulen mountain has some of the most breathtaking bird's eye view of the city I have ever seen. The waterfall was gorgeous and the surroundings, mystical. I thought I would be temples out after the previous day's of temple touring but Beng Melea was worth the visit - a temple truly lost to the nature. Taking the boat down Kampong Phluk was relaxing and a perfect way to end the trip. All in all, I could not have asked more from this tour. Mr Sunny and Mr Handsome are just wonderful people!

We had an amazing trip with Sam our tourguide and driver. He could tell us so many details about the historical places we visited and also has hreat knowledge about his country's history. He took wonderful fotos from us from very special locations. The car was cooled down well and Sam dupplied us with as many water bottlrs as we needed. We can highly recommend this special tour were we visited 5 different temples within 11 hours. He could answer all our questions, and there were plenty of them. ;-)

Ultimate Angkor Wat Sunrise Tours, Bayon, Ta Prohm, Banteay Srei And Beng Mealea
I selected a solo tour because I didn't want to be rushed when exploring the temples. The guide was very considerate of my needs and went at my pace. After two of the more popular temples I requested that we go to temples with fewer tourists, because I wanted to take pictures without other tourists in them. The guide agreed, and our last two temples were wonderful - hardly any people. After 4 sites, I wilted and headed back to the hotel. I would recommend this tour.

The tour was more than we expected. We had a great time with a guide who has amazing knowledge and hospitality. We questioned a lot about those temples and back ground history, but he answered all of them and made us more interested in Cambodia. We would like to appreciate to our guide and also to the driver. They made our trip impressive and satisfying. This opportunity leads us to have interest in Cambodia and its history more than before. Thank you so much.

2-Days Private Tour Discovery Angkor Wat , Waterfall and Beng Mealea Temple
Very worth it. The only recommendation I would make is a return visit to Angkor Wat at sunset. We arrived a Angkor Wat about 1 hour before sunrise. It was wonderful to see it slowly come into view. But, you should also see Angkor Wat at sunset.
