The Best Cities Around the World to Celebrate Pride
Pride is more than just rainbows and parades.
One of Taipei’s most distinctive destinations, the Miniatures Museum of Taiwan was founded in 1997, and is the first collection of its kind in Asia. Established by Lin Wen-jen and Lin Chin-mei—two impassioned collectors—it features dozens of miniature creations of phenomenal detail and complexity, and is aimed at both kids and adults.
Step into a world of wonder—and feel like a giant—when you enter the lilliputian Miniatures Museum of Taiwan. A unique city fixture for over two decades, the museum features extraordinarily crafted miniatures sourced from an array of artists and countries. Displays range from Japanese street scenery and scenes from popular Disney films to an impeccable miniature of Buckingham Palace—most of which are rendered at a 1:12 scale. Highlights among the objects on display include a functioning tiny TV, and a 1-centimeter bottle that’s filled with real brandy.
The Miniatures Museum of Taiwan is included in the convenient Taipei FunPass scheme. It’s also simple to plan an independent visit.
The Miniatures Museum of Taiwan is conveniently located in central Taipei. If using public transportation, take the Songshan-Xindian Line or the Zhonghe-Xinlu Line to Songjiang Nanjing Station. Alternatively, the museum can be visited on foot, by bike, or by taxi.
The Miniatures Museum is open every day except Monday, from 10am–6pm (last entry is at 5pm). It’s advised to leave at least an hour or two for your visit; each work features so much detail that you’ll want enough time to appreciate every small touch.
Planning a cultural day out? Pair your visit to the Miniatures Museum of Taiwan with trips to other edifying institutions. The National Palace Museum houses an array of ancient treasures, while the National Taiwan Museum tells the story of the country’s history. Head to the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei to see the city’s cutting-edge side, or the Evergreen Maritime Museum to admire miniature ships and other nautical artifacts.
