The basics

Established in 1994, the Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines tells the story of Taiwan’s Indigenous ethnic groups, who, throughout the country’s history, were often forced to assimilate and risked losing their cultural identities. Today, the museum showcases historical crafts, works by contemporary indigenous artists, objects related to agriculture and religion, and many other displays, all with the aim of shining a light on an overlooked part of the island’s history and identity.

Visits to the Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines are often combined with trips to the neighboring National Palace Museum under a shared ticket; together, the two make for an ideal day out exploring Taiwan's diverse culture and history.
