I chose the 3-star level of accomodation and the hotels were very mixed. The first (Seven Wonders) in Petra did not have a flushing toilet, a set menu for dinner becsuse there were so few guests, none of the waitstaff spoke English but did come over every two minutes to ask if everything was okay (not exaggerating). They pushed drinks hard (soda, juice, etc) and I was led to believe that a drink was included. I was charged for water and a sprite which I ordered to get the waiter to leave. Aside from the non-flushing toilet, the room was dingy and old. The second night was in a "tent" in Wadi Rum (Al Hilawi Camp) which was grim. No hot water, only one other guest, so the promised dinner of a meal prepared in the ground to be shared with others did not happen. The one other guest and I were seated at separate tables and served a set meal. There is not a single surface to put your jacket, bags, towel, etc other than your bed. However, the staff was nice. Feel free to ask for an extra blanket because it is cold in there and don't forget flip flops because the floor is red sand. Close the door to bathroom so you don't smell the toilet. The third night in Aqaba was much better after my driver spoke to the front desk. Room was totally fine, and two bottles of water were included. Buffet dinner and buffet breakfast, food is okay. Finally, the Ramada Resort in the Dead Sea has seen better days. The place is banged up, the walls are grimy, mold and stains in the bathroom, sink would not drain well so it was really gross. Buffet dinner and breakfast were both okay. I was the only person on the tour so it made for a very lonely 4 days. I have never joined a tour where I was alone. The driver was also the tour guide but he is not officially trained or licensed as such so I ended up with great gaps in my knowledge. Nice enough guy, but the constant hard sell of additional trips and tours was annoying. I took him up on one, a visit to a shop that sold Dead Sea products as I was interested in buying some mud. He took me to a shop that sells souvenirs as well as dead sea products and you have to endure the whole spiel on all the products even though you may only be interested in one kind. Warning: do not believe them when they say that mud is allowed in carry-on baggage. It is to be treated line a liquid. The woman swore that it was fine in carry-on, I asked multiple times. So that was 50JD down the drain. Driver admitted that he gets a bonus for bringing in customers.

I went to Jordan in March which is before the heavy tourist season which made it nice to see a lot of the sites without bumping into a lot of other tourists. The driver/guide was very professional and friendly. He was on time the first day and his car had wifi and let me charge my phone. He also spoke very good english. I chose the three star package and the hotels were all decent and included breakfast and dinner so all I had to pay for was lunch, tips, and anything extra. The Petra guide spoke very good english and was very funny. Also at Petra, there are a lot of vendors who try and force you to buy gifts. The guide at Wadi Rum was also nice and it was very relaxing and peaceful driving around all the sand dunes and seeing rock formations. The tent I had had its own toilet and shower. Petra, in my opinion, was bigger in reality than what I ever saw in pictures or from movies. Aqaba is mainly a resort town and the Red Sea was nice and very clear. You can also see Egypt, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.
