Outstanding visit to the Cotswolds and stunning tour of Blenheim Palace

I thoroughly enjoyed my day trip to visit two charming villages in the Cotswolds as well as the spectacular tour of the magnificent Blenheim Palace and its gardens. Our tour guide, Deborah, from Evans & Evans Tours, was superb!! Her lighthearted and comprehensive overview of both the highlights of the Cotswolds region as well as lesser known facts made for an informative and enlightening tour. And despite some damp and soggy conditions, her marvelous sense of humor just enhanced a wonderful experience to the English countryside. I would definitely take a tour again where Deborah was at the helm. She is to be commended for her approach to keeping her customers engaged.

Had the same tour guide today as the one yesterday; Tower of London and Westminster Abbey. Talked too much about his thesis on Spartacus. Took us to Bampton in the Cotswold's, which a number of tourists thought this meant Downton Abbey, (Highclere Castle) but it was not. He told us he had not bothered to see the series of Downton Abbey, but proceeded to speak as if he knew all about it. He was wrong on three important points. Mathew Crawley did NOT ditch Edith at the Alter, it was Anthony Strelen. It was the 5th Earl of Caernarvon, not the 8th, who paid Howard Carter to dig in Egypt. Third, he was convinced Ealing Studios was closed years ago and the series was filmed in the actual buildings. That is not true at all. Ealing Studios is alive and well and was used to film all the "downstairs" scenes. The problem was, you could not tell him that he was wrong, he knew EVERYTHING. For Downton Abbey Series devotees, this was unsettling. Lastly, he publicly told a couple in front of 35 people on the bus that their wasting time eating in a pub, caused the whole bus to be late, etc. Well, the small village pub could not feed everyone in the short time allotted, and he made the couple embarrassed and upset. This tour could have been restful and peaceful in the Cotswolds, but it was full of problems, primarily caused by the tour guide. Not a good time. I had to hear him do this on two different trips on two different days.

Only Blenheim

Blenhiem was awesome but requires more time to get value for money, given the vast gardens. PLEASE remove the Bampton STOP, I would like to use Evan Evans again, but feel cheated with the Bampton stop, its unnecessary, other perons on the tour thought they were going to see Highclere. The Cotswolds, was WAY to touristy for me! Overcrowded and not what I expected, walked in the complete opposite direction of the crowd and walked along rest of small village, to see more of the buildings that gave the region its name.

Company was proactive and professional in organization and boarding process. Great driver (Barry) and Guide (Nigel) entertaining and somewhat informative. Blenheim Palace was the last and best stop. We did not book entry to palace as we only wanted to see the inside gardens. Bought tickets using senior discount. With allowed time, we were able to see most of gardens and park area. Would not have been able to do so if we had bought the palace and garden package.

Too much time spent on Downton Abbey and too little time in Bourton. Missed Arlington Row altogether. You don’t really get to experience the Cotswolds.
