Itinerary
Stop At:
Kensington Palace
Kensington Palace unveils a palace of secret stories and public lives. Arrive through stunning landscaped gardens and be greeted by a statue of one of Kensington Palace’s most famous residents, Queen Victoria. Walk in the footsteps of Kings and Queens as you venture through the elegant state apartments. Filled with stories of two royal courts; the Stuarts and the Hanoverians, step back in time as you discover what you would have worn, how you would have had to behave and how to navigate the heady atmosphere of court at Kensington Palace. Victoria – A royal childhood. Most are aware of the “unamused” older Queen Victoria, however through a display of objects relating to her early years, you will gain an intimate insight into the world of the creative and vibrant princess destined to rule over the greatest empire the world had ever seen. All within the permanent representation of Victoria’s childhood rooms, discover the princess’s education, family life, friendships and bitter struggles during her life under the strict “Kensington System”. Emeralds (and diamonds) are a girl’s best friend! Don’t miss out on the chance to marvel at the breath-taking Tiaras commissioned for Victoria by her husband, Prince Albert. Featuring the magnificent diamond and emerald diadem, emerald neckless, earrings and brooch, this display is a true testament to the pure love Albert had for his wife. Victoria – Woman and crown is a new exhibition in the Pigott Galleries uncovering the private woman behind the throne and re-examines her later life and legacy. Included in this exhibition are rare survivals from Victoria’s private wardrobe including a fashionable pari of silver boots. This intriguing story also reveals how her 9 children and 42 grandchildren extended her influence across Europe and the Empire. This exhibition will close 5 January 2020. Palace Gardens – the beautiful gardens connect the palace with the landscape of the wider Kensington Gardens providing picturesque vistas. You will also be able to see the beautiful sunken garden, one of Princess Diana’s favourite spots and where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle posed for their engagement photos. Garden history tours are available in the summer months but hurry as places are on a first come first served basis! Do you want to visit more Royal sites? Upgrade to the Royal Palaces Pass to include admission to the Tower of London and Hampton Court. Your pass includes one visit to each attraction and is valid for two years. You'll have plenty of time to explore the stories and intrigues at each site at your leisure, as part of your own itinerary.

Disappointed, but Enjoyable

I was very upset to not be able to see more of Diana’s clothes on display - only the one outfit. Other than that, the Palace has a wonderful display. I loved immersing myself in the history of Kensington Palace.

Wonderful tour of the Palace and the history. On the second floor an exhibit of Queen Victoria and her times. Very beautiful and personal story of an amazing Queen during the changes going on in the world and the UK.

What a wonderful experience. I went in not knowing what to expect and the tour was far better than anticipated. Buying the ticket in advance made the entry process a bit faster, but not significantly. This is a must see for anyone travelling to London.

Not what we expected

Had difficulty finding the location where to switch out voucher for tickets. The address listed on the voucher/site directed us to a guard shack at the very end of the street. Turns out, we switched the vouchers at the actual entrance. Wasted a lot of time. Also, a docent to take us through and elaborate on exhibits would have been nice.

Love the history of our country and there is so much information in Kensington Palace about our royals, not only Queen Victoria, then the walk through the gardens and park made it a thoroughly enjoyable day!

We got there before it opened but that is ok because we spent the time in the beautiful garden. I pictured in my head Diana roaming around admiring the flowers.Lots to see in the building and we were not rushed. Could spend as much time as we wanted in each room.

Purchased my tickets at a nice discount (they will send you a coupon) with Viator. I printed the voucher but forgot it at the palace, but they still accepted my booking because I was able to email my confirmation to them! Everyone was super nice and the exhibit of Queen Victoria was outstanding. The gardens around the palace were so beautiful! The whole experience from booking to leaving was excellent! This tour is highly recommended!

Lovely self guided tour. If you’re a fan of the Masterpiece show “Victoria “, it’s an extra helpful place to visit. Her doll house, toys, bed, makes history come alive. A bit warm in the house! A groundskeeper was so helpful in giving more history, directions and great outgoing personality. Mr. Keith Richards, no not the stoned one, a real live person with stories to tell. The sunken garden was a true treasure.
