With hotel pickup included, it’s easy to get to Singapore’s River Safari, which is located in the northern part of the island. Home to 30 acres (12 hectares) of habitats that mimic the environments of some of the world’s biggest rivers, River Safari provides an immersive experience where you can see 5,000 animals across 300 species, plus more than 150 different types of plants.
Walk around the themed habitats to spot giant fish, amphibians and river mammals, from the Chinese salamander to the endangered Mekong catfish. Look for river otters and a freshwater stingray, and don’t miss the Yangtze River zone, where the Giant Panda Forest is one of the park’s top attractions. Here you can watch resident pandas Jia Jia and Kai Kai laze around their climate-controlled habitat, where boulders, water features, and lush vegetation imitate their natural environment in China.
Then visit the Amazon Flooded Forest zone, where you can see more than 18 animal species, including the arapaima and manatee. If you wish, you can hop on the Amazon Quest for a boat ride down the ‘Amazon River’ to see fascinating Amazon animals like the red howler monkey, jaguar, anteater, capybara, and Brazilian tapir (boat ride at your own expense).
By the time you leave River Safari, you have a new appreciation for the fragile ecosystems that depend on Earth’s rivers, such as the Mekong and the Nile. Learn about the conservation efforts in place to preserve some freshwater habitats that are disappearing more quickly than forest and ocean environments.
River Safari is Asia's first and only river-themed wildlife park. Inspired by the world's iconic river habitats, the park is home to 200 land and aquatic animal species. Stroll along freshwater aquariums and luscious walk-through exhibits, including attractions such as Giant Panda Forest and the world's largest freshwater aquarium - the Amazon Flooded Forest.
This seemed like an interesting thing to do in Singapore. Can be done stand-alone or tracked on to a zoo visit or night safari. We just did the River Safari Experience that day.
Pick-up from and return to hotel offered and made the outing easy.
On the way our tour guide painted a picture of limited exhibits and long queues for the boat ride. Expecting the worse we were pleasantly surprised by the experience. We were lucky there were no queues that day. The exhibits were plentiful and interesting enough. The boat ride was fun.
This is also where you see the giant pandas. They are cool but not the highlight. The manatees are fascinating. All-in-all a good little tour, not expensive, and quite informative.
Lucky we had Siwa! After a very long wait for bus, which seemed the norm for Tour East, we were able to see this river safari followed by night safari. I recommend you do the 2 in one day. We had night safari on a different night, but luckily able to combine the 2. For someone who doesn't know it can save you time on your tour of Singapore. Zoo is also next door.
Wonderful experience but not long enough. Picked up from the hotel at 1315 and left Chinatown at 1400 . Arrived at the zoo at 1440. Leaving time was 1640 leaving us just 2hours to discover all the rivers of the world. Explored the Amazon and a great boat ride but saw about 20 percent of the attraction. Far,far too short.
You get 2 boat trips in the experience. One around the lake from which you can only see a few animals and the River safari which is a small themed boat trip where you get very close to lots of animals but it only takes 10 minutes. In my view you would be better going to the whole Zoo for the day and doing all the rides. But this is good if you only have half a day to visit. The best bit is not the rides but walking to them through the Aquatic part of the Zoo. Massive fish tanks and water features, very impressive !
Like the other zoo experiences I had a great time here, though I would have to say of the three I definitely preferred the night safari. The amazon boat ride whilst fun I couldnt see some of the animals due to the sun in my eyes, plus the speed of the ride goes past each quickly. Pandas was definitely my favourite area.
