Start your city tour of Taipei by meeting your guide at the Daan Park MRT station. Gather with your small group for a bicycle fitting before embarking on your ride. Cycle past ponds and pavilions along a recreational pathway through the 64-acre (26-hectare) Daan Forest Park (aka Da'an Park), arriving at tranquil Qingtian Street for a guided tour. 

Admire Qingtian Geo 76, a Japanese-style heritage home, before your next bike stop in downtown Taipei: Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. If time allows, see the Changing of the Guards before a guided tour of this regal monument to the former president.

Drop off your bike around midday, then follow your guide on foot to Yongkang Street to fulfill your appetite from the many food stalls, restaurants and cafés (own expense). Your guide can recommend traditional Taiwanese specialties such as steam-fried baozi (dumplings), beef noodles and stewed minced pork.

After lunch, it’s a 15-minute ride by MRT to the Xiangshan Hiking Trail at Elephant Mountain. Climb the dozens of steep steps to the viewpoint for a panoramic vista over the city skyline, which is punctuated by the towering Taipei 101 skyscraper.

Then your guide accompanies you by public bus on a 30-minute ride to Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. Finish your full-day itinerary with a guided tour of the old tobacco building, now a design exhibition space commonly referred to as the ‘Creative Hub of Taipei.’ Note: some areas are free of charge, while others are at your own expense.

We booked this tour for my son and I because we had only one day in transit in Taipei. Andy met us up at the train station and was very kind to be looking around for us, as we were a bit late. He was very flexible to accomodate and change part of the itinerary to suit my son. We had a really fantastic day cycling and listening to very knowledgeable and passionate history of Taiwan. Using the different modes of transportation to see the city was a fun way to explore Taipei. It ended up being just myself and Lucy, so it was like a private tour. She was wonderful! Lucy was kind, friendly, shared interesting information, answered all my questions (though I didn’t have many) and gave good recommendations for the rest of my stay. I lucked out on being the only person—it felt like a friend took me out to see her city. Seeing the changing of the soldiers at the memorial was also pretty special to see!

We had a very good day with our guide Kai. Kai spoke excellent English, and showed very open to explain and discuss many particularities of Taiwanese traditions and culture. He also showed to be a great improvisor, when he found out that we already had visited the Chang Kai Check Memorial he quickly fitted in a visit to an Oohlung Tea House where we were given a full tea ceremony and an explanation of making tea in rounds. Thereafter we cycled and ended up in a restaurant for lunch, where Kai introduced to the main Taiwanese dishes. That knowledge served us greatly during the next 2 weeks of our trip. We walked up the mountain and visited the design center. After a farewell coffee Kai left us, and we went our way. We foster our very good memories of the day spent with you Kai! Many thanks!

I thought it'd be a good idea to do a general tour on one of the first days of my trip to help me get the lay of the land. This turned out to be an excellent choice. The main sights were: - Elephant Mountain, which has the best vantage points of downtown Taipei and in particular the 101 skyscraper. This may only be 600 feet high but in the heat and humidity you'll really feel it! Be sure to take water - Songshan Cultural Creative Park, which is an intriguing mix of old and new architecture, with various shops and stalls, right near some proper countryside and next to the impressive but unfinished new Taipei Dome - Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, which houses an impressive museum on the Nationalist leader and hosts a regular changing of the guard. The matching, enormous National Theatre and Symphony Hall buildings recent but with traditional architectural styles are in the same complex We also called in on a Japanese-era house. As the name suggests, the tour uses various modes of transport. I always enjoy cycling around East Asian cities and Taipei - with its handy YouBike system - was no exception. Summer was a charming host, leading our tour efficiently and with great energy and humour, with much explanation of history, local customs etc along the way. The cycling always felt safe and the overall pace of the day was unhurried, incorporating a beef noodle lunch and the obligatory bubble tea. An excellent introductory tour.

Surprised to find out that I was the only one who signed up on the tour the day I had it. Since I got Alan, the tour guide, all to myself, I had the chance to ask him every curiosity I had with the city and the country. Since we had extra time, we also rode the bus to our last destination. This is probably the best tour to experience the city like a local. Will highly recommend this to my friends.

It turned out to just be me and m very knowledgeable guide, Kelly. Although had there been more people I don't think it would have mattered as they keep group sizes small. Kelly changed the tour a little to suit me but also the weather as it had been reported it was due to get worse throughout the day. Kelly was very caring and had bought a bottle of water for me, and kept checking if I needed to drink or use the WC at various places we visited. I saw a lot of Taipei during the day and enjoyed doing it via various methods of transport. I would recommend this to anyone who visits Taipei, but unlike me do it at the start of your visit as you can get a sense of the city.
